OFI Crete

OFI Crete, typically only OFI (Greek ΟΦΗ - Όμιλος Φιλάθλων Ηρακλείου, Omilos Filathlon Irakleiou, club sports and friends of Heraklion ) is a Greek football club based in Heraklion, Crete's capital.

History

The club was founded in 1925, and its colors are black and white. OFI plays its home games at the Pankritiko Stadium from, which includes 26,400 seats, and together with Ergotelis the biggest football club in the island.

OFI rose in 1968 for the first time in the Greek first division, the Alpha Ethniki, and this was on until 1971, when it descended as Table. 1976 it rose as a table first again. 2009 had the club after 33 years of continuous excellence, as Table Fourteenth again the transition to the second division, take the Beta Ethniki. While there, the third rank was achieved, but OFI could not prevail in the playoffs and missed the direct resurgence. The following year, OFI managed to qualify in third place on the playoffs again for the first league. First OFI had been denied the promotion due to the betting scandal in 2011 in Greece, however, the club was able to successfully appeal and then decide the playoffs for themselves.

From July 2006 to November 2007, the club was coached by German Reiner Maurer.

European Cup

The team qualified for the UEFA Intertoto Cup 2007. There, however, the club eliminated in the third round 0-1 and 0-1 against the Kazakh representative Tobol Qostanai from.
