OÄŸuz Atay

Oğuz Atay ( born October 12, 1934 in İnebolu, † December 13, 1977 in Istanbul) was a Turkish writer.

Life

Oğuz Atays father was a judge, his mother a teacher in a provincial town in northern Turkey. He attended high school in Ankara until 1951 and studied after his military service in civil engineering at the Technical University of Istanbul. After graduating in 1957 he opened a construction company that failed. In 1960 he found a job at the Technical University and received there in 1970 as an assistant professor.

1972 Atays first novel The maintenance batches ( " Tutunamayanlar "), a year later, Dangerous Games ( " Tehlikeli Oyunlar "). For " Tutunamayanlar " he received in 1970 a literary prize of the Turkish Radio TRT, so even before publication. However, the novel was first in a new edition in 1984 after the death of the author a bestseller in Turkey. The text resists translation into other languages ​​and other novels Atays are not yet translated. The biographical novel Bir Bilim Adamının Romani about Mustafa Inan is the first translation of a larger work into German.
