Ohiya rat

The Sri Lankan rat ( Srilankamys ohiensis ) is a rodent species from the group of Altweltmäuse ( Murinae ). It has long been classified in the genus of the Real rats ( Rattus ), but today, out in a separate genus, Srilankamys.

When measuring a copy of the body length was 14.5 cm and the tail length of 17.3 centimeters. The coat is whitish - gray at the top and dark gray on the bottom, the dividing line between the dorsal and ventral coloration is sharp, and the tail is bi-colored.

Sri Lanka rats live in Sri Lanka, their habitat are both lower-lying rainforests and mountain forests up to 2100 meters above sea level. They are nocturnal and live partially digging in the earth.

These rodents have a small, threatened by deforestation, habitat, and are therefore by the IUCN as "vulnerable" ( vulnerable ) listed. Systematic forms the Sri Lankan rat with some other Southeast Asian Altweltmäusen the Dacnomys group.
