Ichalia (Greek Οιχαλία ( f sg ), also Oihalia, Oechalia or Ihalia transcribed ) is a town and former municipality in Greek region of Thessaly. In 2001 the community numbered 5,783 inhabitants, of which 2,936 inhabitants on the building site, the rest on the four eingemeindeten districts. Ichalia was also known as Neohori.

Location

Ichalia lies in the plain of Thessaly southwest of Elassona, west of Larisa, northeast of the city of Karditsa and east of the city of Trikala. Ichalia is with the National Road 6 ( Larissa - Trikala - Ioannina - Igoumenitsa ) connected to the Greek road network.

History

As Niochori ( Νηοχώρι ) the place was in 1912 recognized as a rural community ( kinotita ), renamed in 1940 in Neohori and 1981 in Ichalia. In 1995 the municipality was elevated to Stadthgemeinde ( dimos ) and enhanced by the incorporation of four neighboring municipalities in 1997. Along with the neighboring community Pellinei Ichalia was 2010, the neighboring community Farkadona incorporated, where it has since formed a district.

After the Second World War and the Greek Civil War, the population declined, many went abroad. To the electricity grid, the village was connected only in the 1960s.

Districts

The current district Ichalia is next to the main town of the towns Georgianades (395 inhabitants), Klokotós ( 672 ) Krini ( 895 ) and Petroto ( 885 ).

Infrastructure

The village has a primary school and a secondary school (high school ). Outdoor events take place on the square market square in the town center.

Population

In 1981, the population of the municipal seat 3,221. She sank about 3,271 ( 1991) to 2,936 ( 2001). The main town is about half of the inhabitants of the borough and about 4 % of the population of the prefecture.
