Oicles

Oikles (Greek Οἰκλῆς ) In Greek mythology, the son of Antiphates and Zeuxippe. Pausanias calls him a son of Mantios, a brother of the Antiphates. The statement of Diodorus, he was a son of Amphiaraus is probably due to an error, because the was his son.

After Antiphates he became king of Argos and married Hypermestra, the daughter of Thestios and Eurythemiste. With her he became the father of Amphiaraus, the Endeos that Iphianeira and Polyboia.

He accompanied Heracles, when he marched against the Trojan king Laomedon. While Heracles marched against Troy, Oikles guarded the ships. Laomedon would destroy the ships of the Greeks and advanced against Oikles, killed them and destroyed the ships. According to another tradition, survived Oikles and settled after the war in Arcadia. So reports Apollodorus that Alcmaeon on the run from the Erinyes short time stayed with him in Arcadia and Pausanias was shown his grave in Arcadia.

Sophocles wrote a tragedy Oikles.
