ÅŒigawa Railway Ikawa Line

The Ikawa Line (Japanese井 川 线, Ikawa - sen) is a operated by the private Oigawa tetsudō Japanese railway line which runs in Shizuoka Prefecture between Senzu and Ikawa. The Ikawa - line is the only rack railway in Japan.

History

The Ikawa Line was opened in 1935 as a 762 mm narrow gauge railway, but rebuilt in 1936 on the Cape gauge in Japan mostly widespread.

The construction of the dam Nakashima in 1990, the Ikawa Line had to be changed in their routing in the Oigawa, which they followed until then, was dammed. As between the stations Abt Ichishiro Nagashima Dam and the route could no longer run along the Oigawa, they had to be driven with several tunnels through the mountains. The route was shortened by this measure and to overcome slope was so great that in this 1.5 km stretch a gear rod system of the type abbot had to be installed with more than nine percent.
