Oil and Natural Gas Corporation

Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited ( ONGC ) is a natural gas and oil companies from India, based in Dehradun. The company is listed on the financial index BSE Sensex.

ONGC was founded by the Government of India on 14 August 1956. The Government of India held in early 2013 directly 69.2 % indirectly through state owned companies Indian Oil Corporation and Gas Authority of India further 10.1 % stake in ONGC, the rest is freely traded on the stock exchange. ONGC contributes 77 % to the Indian crude oil production and 81 % to natural gas production in India. The company employs about 34,000 people (as of 2006).

The company produces around 30 % of India's crude oil. It owns and manages more than 11,000 km of pipelines in India. According to the company ONGC is the largest Indian companies by market capitalization.
