Oil pump (internal combustion engine)

Oil pumps are pumps that move or transport the oil in any form by a conduit system. These are depending on the technical application of completely different types of pumps. In chemical laboratories, the term oil pump, however, is used for working with a lubricating oil rotary vane pump, which is used for generating Grobvakui.

Lubrication

Oils are lubricants that can be fed with an oil pump. Suitable metering pumps or pressure pumps ( piston pumps or gear pumps ), the latter for the operation of hydrodynamic journal bearings, which are for example in the internal combustion engine.

In the oil circuit a motor lubrication of the pump follows first an oil filter that retains the motor-generated solid combustion residues and wear caused by metal particles. The engine oil is then delivered to the individual lubrication points, such as bearings and the crankshaft, and then dispersed again collected in the sump from which it is pumped out again.

There is the internal combustion engine often lash adjuster for the valve train, which are actuated via the motor oil. Thus, the oil pump may also simultaneously, a hydraulic pump (see below) to be. Executed oil pumps in engines usually as gear pumps.

Hydraulic

→ Main article hydraulic pump

If mechanical work is to be done with oil or if oil is used for power transmission in terms of hydraulics, must be applied with a pump the necessary pressure. This is called, in some cases the oil pump.

Uses and labeled as such, oil pumps, for example in diesel locomotives. They are used for driving fans for the engine cooling. The fans are hydraulic motors which are connected via a line system to the oil pump. It is driven by the main diesel locomotive and sets the hydraulic fan in motion. Such drives are called hydrostatic.

Even for power transmission in the drive train, the hydraulic system is used in many diesel locomotives and railcars. To the turbine and pump are accommodated in a common housing, the power transmission is then hydrodynamically through the mass forces of the medium set in rotation.

Oil production

→ Main article submersible pump

When the oil reservoir has a low pressure, it must be brought to the surface with an oil pump. These are also called deep well pump or horse-head pumps. They are used for example in the oil production in Germany.
