Oil wrestling

Oil wrestling (Turkish Yagli güreş ) is a sport that is considered to be the national sport of Turkey. He is also widespread in Bulgaria, especially in the Southeast.

It always occur two wrestlers against each other, supervised by a referee. Fighting is done outdoors on the lawn. The typical battle clothes are special leather trousers ( Kispet ). In addition, the fighter from head to toe rub with olive oil, which the onset of levers and handles very difficult.

There are two ways that lead to victory: either you manage to squeeze both shoulders of the opponent on the ground (shoulder victory ) or lift the opponent and move three wide.

Yagli Güreş is one of the most difficult and complicated ground combat sports. As Turkish Kırkpınar wrestler in 1960 at the Olympic Games in Rome competed for Turkey, they won seven of the 16 gold medals in the range rings, and brought by Turkey to sixth place of the medal table ( these were the most successful Olympic Games for Turkey). Kırkpınar tournament

According to tradition, the first Kırkpınar Tournament was held in 1361 in Rumelia / Ottoman Empire. The fighting in its present form since 1925, see every year in June on the Sarayici Peninsula ( Kırkpınar ) on the outskirts of Edirne instead.

In 1996, the first International Kırkpınar Championship, the Amsterdam Kirk Pinar was held in the Netherlands, in 2002 the first Dutch Cup in The Hague and in 2004 the first German Championship in Frankfurt am Main.
