Oisín Kelly

Oisín Kelly ( born May 17, 1915 in Dublin and Austin Kelly, † 1981) was an Irish sculptor.

He was the son of William Kelly, principal of James 's Street National School, and his wife Elizabeth (nee McLean ). Before an Artist in Residence at the Kilkenny Design Centre in 1966, he worked as a teacher. Initially, he attended evening classes at the National College of Art and Design and studied in 1948 and 1949 for a short time with Henry Moore.

Kelly originally focused on small wooden carvings, and his first jobs were primarily for Catholic churches. He became famous by the contract for a sculpture, The Children of Lir ( German: Children Lir ), for the Garden of Remembrance in Dublin. Other public contracts followed, including Two Men Working in front of the County Hall in Cork and the statue of James Larkin in Dublin's O'Connell Street.
