The Sava Bridge ( sr. Савски мост / Savski most) is a traffic and road rail bridge in the Serbian capital Belgrade. In her role, she is considered the smallest road bridge connects the core of Belgrade and the Serbian capital over the Save the district of Novi Beograd.

Construction

The bridge is about 430 meters long, the longest span is 157 meters. She has one each lane in each direction, which are also used by the tram. The tracks were laid in 1984 during the construction of the tram line to the Block 45 in New Belgrade.

The Sava Bridge built in 1942 by the German Wehrmacht during the occupation of Serbia during the Second World War, when the Alexander Bridge ( see Brankov most ), the only road in Belgrade across the Sava bridge was destroyed at that time. On 20 October 1944, the Belgrade teacher Miladin Zaric was able to convince soldiers of the German Wehrmacht during their retreat from not blow up the bridge. The Sava Bridge was reconstructed several times, most recently 2007/2008 when it was expanded in their vehicle width.

Name

The Germans called the bridge initially the Prinz-Eugen- bridge; in her name of Belgrade, long after the end of the Second World War, the German Bridge ( sr. nemački most). However, these names were forgotten, so that today the official name is the Sava bridge. The common name of Belgrade, however, is the Old Sava bridge, sr. stari Savski most.
