Oldenburg–Leer railway

The railway line Oldenburg- Leer is a 55- km-long single-track, electrified main line in the northwest of Lower Saxony. It combines the Emsland web at idle with the city of Oldenburg. Thus, it serves the traffic from Hanover and Bremen to the port of Emden, the Emsland and the western East Frisia including the important for the tourism islands of Borkum, Juist and Norderney. Together with the railway line empty Groningen she also has an international importance.

The line was opened on 15 June 1869 by the Grand Duchy of Oldenburg State Railways and electrified during the year 1992, which was unnecessary the costly and time-consuming change of locomotives in Oldenburg for the route of Ostfriesland.

The Roadmap 2008, the connection with individual intercity trains from Leipzig / Berlin and Hannover to Emden and north dike is operated. Along with the traffic as a regional express trains resulting in about one hour. Since mid-December 2010, an hourly buses running the Regio -S -Bahn Bremen / Lower Saxony offered on the Oldenburg -Bad Zwischenahn section.

The " additional requirements" for the Federal Transport Infrastructure Plan provides long-term before a two-pronged expansion for freight ports, this is however not clear in time.
