Ole Danbolt Mjøs

Ole Danbolt Mjøs ( born March 8, 1939 in Bergen, † October 1, 2013 ) was a Norwegian physician and professor at the University of Tromsø, moreover he belonged to the Christian People's Party of Norway (KrF ) and held in the function of several political positions.

Career

After studying medicine Mjøs his doctorate in 1972. Three years later he was appointed professor of physiology at the University of Tromsø. From 1989 to 1995 he was President of the University. He published several works on the cardiovascular physiology and delivered with his work new insights into the causes of heart attack. From 1998 to 2000 he led a committee appointed by the State, the so-called Mjøs Committee, which had the task to investigate higher education in Norway. The committee's recommendations formed the basis for the university reform of 2003.

In addition Mjøs from 2003 to 2008 Member of the Norwegian Nobel Committee to appoint the winner of the Nobel Peace Prize and directed it. His successor in this position was Thorbjørn Jagland.

Mjøs was carrier of the St. Olav's Order and the Order of the Lion of Finland.
