Ole Morten VÃ¥gan

Ole Morten Vågan ( born May 8, 1979 in Brønnøysund ) is a Norwegian jazz musician (double bass) and arranger, trained in the Jazzlinja (University of Trondheim ), 2000. Vågan is considered one of the greatest talents of Norway on double bass.

As a jazz musician, he debuted in the late 1990s in the North - Norsk - Ungdomstorband and had a private Ole Morten Vågan project with which he toured for the Nordnorsk Jazz Forum 1999. It was recorded as a radio concert for the NRK P2 Jazzklubben at the Nordland Musikkfestwoche.

In 2000 he founded the band Motif, which he directed the following years, and was honored in the same year with the NOPA composers price. 2001 at the Jazz festival in Copenhagen, he received an award as Young Nordic Jazzcomet. During this time he published the Maria Kannegaard trio two CDs and can be heard on several CDs with Tore Johansen. He also worked with Roger Kellaway, Frode Nymo, Atle Nymo, Jonas Kullhammar, Knut Riisnæs, Jon Larsen, Vigleik Storaas, as well as a permanent bassist in Bugge Wesseltoft's " New Conceptions of Jazz ". He also appeared with Ivo Papasov, John Scofield and Joshua Redman.

Vågan received the DnB NOR Prize at the Kongsberg Jazz Festival 2009.
