Ole Petter Ottersen

Ole Petter Ottersen ( born March 17, 1955) is a Norwegian professor of medicine and since 2009 Rector of the University of Oslo.

His research field is the neuroscience he is also the former director of the Center for Molecular Biology and Neuroscience at the University of Oslo. In 2005 he received the Research Award from the Lundbeck Foundation and Jon Storm- Mathisen. In 2008 he also received the Anders Jahre Prize ( Anders Jahre 's Award for Medical Research). In 2001 he was, together with Per Mathisen and Brandtzæg the most cited Norwegian scientists in international journals.

In 2009 he applied for the post of Rector of the University of Oslo. The Rector is elected by the students and the faculty of the University. Ottersens single opposition candidate in this election was Trygve Wyller, the Dean of the Faculty of Theology. On 2 April 2009 the success Ottersens was clear in the election for Rector.
