Oleksandr Vilkul

Oleksandr Jurijowytsch Wilkul (Ukrainian Олександр Юрійович Вілкул; born May 24, 1974 in Krivoy Rog ) is a Ukrainian politician ( Party of Regions ). He was a member of the Verkhovna Rada deputy and from December 2012 to February 27, 2014 Prime Minister of Ukraine.

Life

Origin and family

Wilkul was born on 24 May 1974 in Krivoy Rog to the west of the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast. In 1996, he completed a degree in mining engineering from the Technical University of Krivoy Rog and then worked until 2006 as a business manager in his hometown. He is married and has a daughter named Maria since 2008. His father Yuri Hryhorowytsch Wilkul is mayor of Krivoy Rog and former Rector of the Technical University of Krivoy Rog.

Policy

Since 2006 he is a Member of the Party of Regions in the Ukrainian parliament and was at times the deputy chairman of the Verkhovna Rada. From March 2010 until his appointment as Deputy Prime Minister, he was chairman of the Oblastverwaltung (Governor ) of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast. On 24 December 2012, he was appointed by Viktor Yanukovych appointed Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine.

On 16 May 2013, the Nr.279/2013 the State Prize of Ukraine for Science and Technology was awarded by decree of the President of Ukraine.

Wilkul was up to the events of Euromaidan as a possible candidate for the post of Prime Minister of Ukraine in succession by Prime Minister Mykola Azarov. Following the resignation Azarov Wilkul was a caretaker assigned the duties of the Prime Minister on 28 January 2014 to 27 February 2014.
