Olen (poet)

Olen ( Ὠλήν ) was a legendary poet, cult founder and priest of the early Greek period.

According to Pausanias, was Olen Lycians and the author of the oldest hymns. Elsewhere Pausanias quotes the tradition of a Delphic hymn poet named Boio, had come to the oils together with others from Hyperborea to Delphi, where he founded the oracle of Apollo, and the first one was dressed of the prophecies in the form of hexameters.

He is in Delos also known as cult founder and hymn writer, where his hymns to Eileithyia, Hera and the hyperboreeischen virgins Arge and Opis are attributed. Even at the time of Pausanias in the 2nd century they were sung there.
