Olepa schleini

Olepa schleini is a nocturnal butterfly of the subfamily of the tiger moths ( Arctiinae ), which was discovered in 2005 ( again ).

The moth is native to the coastal areas of Israel. He is the only member of the genus Olepa outside the Indian subcontinent. Olepa schleini was named after the Israeli entomologists and sculptor Yosef Schlein. The caterpillars of this moth feed exclusively from the castor bean ( Ricinus communis). This is remarkable, as the poison contained in the seeds of this plant ricinine is considered a highly effective insecticide.

Olepa schleini probably finds mention in the Bible than that "worm", which is sent by God to bring Jonas ' shady castor overnight Wither ( Jonah 4,6 ELB ).
