Olešnice (Rychnov nad Kněžnou District)

Olešnice ( German Olleschnitz ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic. It is located ten kilometers west of Rychnov nad Kněžnou in the foothills of the Eagle Mountains and belongs to Okres Rychnov nad Kněžnou.

Geography

The Reihendorf Olešnice extends along the creek Olešnický creek at a right tributary of the Wild Eagle. Southwest is Malý Chlum rises. South of the railway from Hradec Králové runs to Kostelec nad Orlicí at which the train stop Čestice is.

Neighboring towns are Hoděčín in the north, Ledská and Malá Ledská in the northeast, and Hřibiny Paseky in the east, in the southeast Častolovice, Čestice in the south, Lipa nad Orlicí in the southwest and Rašovice in the West.

History

Olešnice was first documented in the year 1407.

Community structure

The municipality consists of the villages Olešnice Hoděčín ( Hodietschin ) and Olešnice ( Olleschnitz ).

Attractions

  • The Hoděčín Castle was originally a stronghold whose owners changed frequently. 1860-1874 it was rebuilt by Jaroslav von Sternberg to a neoclassical palace. Today, it is in need of renovation.
