Olev Siinmaa

Olev Siinmaa ( until 1936: Oskar Siimann; Also: Oskar Siiman; born November 12, 1881 in Pärnu, Estonia, † March 29, 1948 in Norrköping, Sweden) was an Estonian architect. He was the founder of a style that is called " Pärnu Bäderfunktionalismus ".

Siinmaa was born in Pärnu, the son of a carpenter. He studied interior design in Wismar and consistency. In 1925 he was appointed city architect of Pärnu.

1930 was his first building in the functionalist style in the Roosikrantsi street in Tallinn.

His most famous legacy is the beach of Pärnu Hotel, which he designed in collaboration with Anton Soans and built 1935-1937. The building was described as " the flagship of a new functionalist architecture." 1938 Siinmaa applied as well as Alar Kotli his colleague to be allowed in westestnischen Paslepa design the summer residence of the former Estonian President Konstantin Pats. Kotli designed the state rooms of the building, while Siinmaa responsible for the Office of the President.

1944 emigrated Siinmaaa to Sweden, where he died in 1948.

In 1994, the beach hotel of Pärnu, after it had been left to decay for several years, acquired by the hotel chain Scandic Hotels, renovated and used as a " Scandic Rannahotell " again.
