Olha Kharlan

Olha Hennadijiwna Charlan (Ukrainian Ольга Геннадіївна Харлан, in the English transliteration Olga Kharlan; born September 4, 1990 in Mykolaiv ) is a Ukrainian saber fencer, Olympic gold medalist and world champion.

Life

Olha Charlan had from the age of six dance classes. As parents it is no longer able to pay, they began at the age of nine with the fencing training, as their godfather as manager worked in a club and therefore it was free for the family. In 2003, she won for the first time the Ukrainian Fencing Championships.

Olha Charlan was selected due to their sporting successes in 2008 and 2009, the Ukrainian " Sportswoman of the Year ".

Since the 2010 regional elections Ukrainian Olga Charlan is a member of the City Council of Mykolaiv for the Party of the Regions; she lives in Mykolaiv. She was laid down for the Ukrainian Parliament in the parliamentary elections in October 2012. The Party of Regions to 72 seats, their place 194 on the electoral list was not enough so for an entry into parliament.

She has an older sister Tatiana.

Achievements

After some successes in the Junior Olha Charlan won her first international medal as Active in the Fencing European Championships 2006 in Izmir, she won silver in the individual saber behind Sofya Welikaja. In 2005, she had already obtained with the team bronze at the European Championships in Zalaegerszeg.

In the final against China in the saber team competition of the 2008 Olympic Games Charlan erfocht Only 22 of the 45 matches and the winning goal and thus moved the team ( Olha Charlan, Olena Chomrowa, Halyna Pundyk and Olha Schownir ) to win the gold medal.
