Olidan Hydroelectric Power Station

F1

The hydropower plant Olidan is a hydroelectric power station on the river Göta älv near the constriction Olidan in Trollhättan. The power plant was put into operation in 1910 and was the first state-owned hydroelectric power plant in Sweden.

The first stage consisted of five aggregates. The power plant was rebuilt and extended twice, until it finally consisted of thirteen units with a total capacity of 130 MW. Nowadays Olidan is not fully utilized because the downstream hydroelectric plant Hojum has been expanded with a higher efficiency in order to use most of the water volume of the river can.

The building was designed by Erik Josephsson and consists of Swedish granite from Bohuslän or Roslagen.
