Olisa Agbakoba

Olisa Agbakoba (* May 29, 1953 in Jos, Nigeria ) is a former President of the Nigerian Bar Association and senior partner of a law firm specializing in maritime law in Lagos.

As the son of a judge, he studied law at the University of Nigeria, the Nigerian Law School and the London School of Economics. He became famous for his work in human rights and democracy movement in Nigeria. So was the founder of the " United Action for Democracy", the founding chairman of the " Civil Liberties Organization" and the Zambian pan African human rights organization " AfroNet ". He was executed in 1995 defenders of civil rights activist Ken Saro- Wiwa and was repeatedly arrested for his pro-democracy activities.

He was honored with the Human Rights Award of the German Association of Judges in 1993. In 1996 he received the Aachen Peace Prize. The American Bar Association has honored him.
