Oliver (chimpanzee)

Oliver ( * ca 1958, † 2 June 2012) was a chimpanzee who was known by his human appearance and his upright. There was speculation that Oliver could be a hybrid of human and chimpanzee or the missing link between the two species.

Oliver fell on its human-like skull shape. He was bald, had a chimpanzee unusually pointed ears and a little protruding mouth. He lived in Blackwood at the Dresseurpaar Janet and Frank Burger, who had acquired him as a cub by traders from the Congo region. Social he was only interested in people, not to other chimpanzees. He liked to drink coffee and watch TV. In 1976 he and his foster parents the intense media interest, among other worldwide appearances at events corresponding result. A preliminary genetic analysis showed that he could have 47 chromosomes and would be so precisely between humans and chimpanzees. Since 1996 he has lived in Primates animal sanctuary Primarily. Later investigations revealed that Oliver had 48 chromosomes and in genetic terms was completely normal Common Chimpanzee.
