Olney Hymns

The Olney Hymns are a collection of hymns. They are named after the place Olney in England, where John Newton, author of Amazing Grace, worked after his conversion years as a highly successful assistant pastor ( curate ). The church in which he preached, was so crowded that they had to be extended after some time.

This collection of hymns, John Newton wrote together with his poet friend, William Cowper. The first issue of 1779 contained 68 posts by Cowper and 280 by Newton. A well -preserved copy of the original edition is still in the Harry Ransom Humanities Research Center at the University of Texas at Austin.
