Olof Åhlström

Olof Åhlström ( born August 14, 1756 in Vårdinge (now Södertälje municipality ); † August 11, 1835 in Stockholm) was a Swedish composer and music publisher.

Life

Olof Åhlström came from a rural area in 1772 to the Royal Academy of Music, where he was a pupil of Ferdinand Bell cell. From 1776 to 1792 he was organist at the Marienkirche and 1792-1835 was Åhlström organist at the St. Jacob's Church in Stockholm, at the same time he was obliged in 1805 as a council of war to the Navy Department. As the only music publishers in Sweden, he received in 1788 for 20 years to print the royal privilege of music, which was extended in 1808. So Åhlström was until 1818 in this area without competition. He brought out among others, works by Joseph Martin Kraus, Joseph Haydn and Johann Gottlieb Naumann.

Åhlström composed an opera, incidental music, piano sonatas with violin and vocal music. In his print collections " Musikaliskt Tidsfördrift " (1789-1834) and " Skaldestycker whopping i music " came out (1794-1823), which contained Mehrs than 200 songs. With Arvid Afzelius August he issued a Swedish folk dance collection. He also emerged as an arranger of songs by his compatriot Carl Michael Bellman.
