Olof August Danielsson

Olof August Danielsson (* October 15, 1852 in Häradshammer; † July 10, 1933 in Uppsala ) was a Swedish philologist, epigraphists and leading Etruskologe his time.

Olof August Danielsson studied from 1870 to 1874 Classical Philology at Uppsala University and graduated first with the bachelor's degree ( Fil kand. ). 1879, receiving a doctorate, after which he was a lecturer in classical languages ​​in Uppsala. In 1883 he became professor of historical linguistics, since 1887 also for Gräzistik. Since 1891 he was until 1917 held the chair of Greek language and literature in Uppsala. Since 1911 he was a member of the Kungliga och Vitterhets History Antikvitets Academies and since 1914 the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, since 1924 also a corresponding member of the Prussian Academy of Sciences.

Danielsson published ancient Greek and Lydian inscriptions dealt with ancient Greek grammar and even translated the ancient Indian Mahabhashya. Particularly important was his involvement with the Italic languages ​​such as Umbrian, Oscan and the especially the Etruscan. He brought several of the first volumes of the initiated by Carl Pauli under the umbrella of the Prussian Academy of Sciences Corpus Inscriptionum Etruscarum with out and edited even more.
