Olomouc Region

The Olomouc Region, Czech Olomouc Region, is one of the 14 regions of the Czech Republic. The region is located in the north of Moravia and in addition includes the extreme west of the historic landscape Czech Silesia. Council is based in Olomouc ( Olomouc). In the north the region borders of 104 km in Poland, the national level to the districts Moravian-Silesian Region, Zlín, Moravia and Pardubice. The area is 5267 km ² and has a share of the total area of the Czech Republic of 6.7 % ( 2005). In 397 municipalities, 26 cities, live about 639 161 inhabitants, of which 57.5 % in urban areas ( 2005).

Communities

The communities form between the regions, the third level of administration in the Czech Republic. The region has 13 municipalities with extended scope ( Czech obec s rozšířenou působností ) and 20 community, charged with municipal office ( Czech obec s pověřeným obecním úřadem ). Districts

The districts ( okres ) do not form an organizational unit of the region and have since January 1, 2003, no more administrative function. Nevertheless, some areas of the state administration retained the breakdown by districts in (eg courts, police ). The districts also define the area of the regions.

Environment

The emissions are below the national average, especially in the mountains, the purity of the air very high and the pollution of the waters is very low.

Demography

Economy

The Olomouc Region is one of the industrial regions with extended services. Transport infrastructure

744 km rail network and 3461 km roads, of which 12 % of the first class roads connect the towns. The capital city of Olomouc is connected by four-lane expressway R46 directly with the D1 motorway from Prague to Brno. The northern parts of the Olomouc Region are connected by the four-lane expressway R35. The expansion and further development of the four-lane highways are planned. Important railway junctions are Olomouc and Přerov. In the near Olomouc is a small international airport.

Tourism

The North consists of the Jeseníky with the highest point of the region, the Praděd ( 1,492 m above sea level. M. ).
