Olt County

Olt is a Romanian county ( Judet ) in the Walachia region, with the county capital Slatina. It is named after the river, Olt, its common abbreviation, and the license plate are OT.

The Olt County is bordered on the north by the counties Valcea and Arges, to the east by the counties of Arges and Teleorman, to the south by Bulgaria and to the west by the Dolj county.

Demography

In 2002, the county 489 274 inhabitants and a population density of 89 inhabitants per km ².

In the 2011 census had the Olt County 436,400 inhabitants thus a population density of 79 inhabitants per km ².

Geography

The county has a total area of ​​5498 km ², equivalent to 2.30 % of the area of Romania.

Located in the south of Romania, the circle from the river Olt (Alt ) passes over a length of about 100 km in north-south direction. The portion west of the river lies in the Lesser Wallachia, during part of which is located east in the Great Wallachia. In the south of Olt County borders on a length of 47 kilometers of the Danube.
