Olukonda

Olukonda is a mission town and eponymous constituency in the Oshikoto region in northern Namibia with 9094 inhabitants. The place is located in Ondangwa, some 245 km north- west of the town of Tsumeb and some 215 kilometers east of Ruacana.

Olukonda was founded in 1870 as one of the first mission stations in the north of the country by the Finnish Missionary Society. A native of Finland Missionary Martti Rautanen built the first church here in 1889 and wrote the first Bible translation into Ndonga. The place was for a long time as the capital of northern Namibia. The church today is a cultural monument ( National Monument Olukonda ) and is also home to the so-called Nakambale Museum, an art collection with exhibits from the period of missionary work as well as traditional art objects.

Smaller settlements in Olukonda are Ontananga (18 ° 1 ' S, 16 ° 4' O 18.0166716.06667 ) and Okaloko (18 ° 1 ' S, 16 ° 1' O 18.0166716.01667 ). Olukonda is also home to the residence and Ondonga kings.
