Ömer Asan

Ömer Şükrü Asan ( born May 28, 1961 in Trabzon ) is a Turkish folklorist, photographer and author.

As a result of the protests, nationalistic against the publication of his book Pontos Kültürü, a study of the language and culture of the Greek-speaking Muslims of his native village Coruk in the district of Of, decreed on 21 January 2002, the then National State Security Court in Istanbul a sales ban on the new edition only just started of the book. On June 10 indictment of Asan and his publisher Ragıp Zarakolu were prosecuted for separatist propaganda under Article 8 § 1 of the Anti- Terror Law. After the abolition of Article 8 of the Anti - Terror Law Asan was acquitted in September 2003.

In addition to his books Asan has published numerous articles in various newspapers, including the International Herald Tribune, Milliyet, Sabah and radical.
