Omer Simeon

Omer Simeon ( born July 21, 1902 in New Orleans, Louisiana, † September 17, 1959 in New York City ) was an American clarinetist and saxophonist.

Life and work

Omer Simeon went in 1914 with his family from New Orleans to Chicago, where he studied with Lorenzo Tio Jr. had, who had also moved to Chicago. He first played in the group of his brother, the Al Simeons Hot Six; This was followed from 1923 to 1927, a commitment to Charlie Elgar's Creole Orchestra. In 1928 he moved to New York City and played with Luis Russell and Jelly Roll Morton, but returned that same year to Chicago back to work with Erskine Tate in the orchestra; He also took with Earl Hines, Hayes Alvis and Wallace Bishop under his own name for Brunswick Records on ( Beau -Koo Jack / Smoke - House Blues ). In 1930 he participated in recordings of Harry Dial for Vocalion with; In 1931 he came to the Earl Hines Orchestra where he remained until 1941.
