One-Armed Bandit is the fifth studio album by the Norwegian nu-jazz band Jaga Jazzist. It was released on 25 January 2010.
Style and reception
In " One-Armed Bandit ", the nonet plays with six guest musicians: Frank Zappa -influenced jazz-rock with elements of other styles such as the progressive rock and the dance floor.
Christian Steinbrink praised " One-Armed Bandit " in Nillson Fanzine:
"In the context of trained in jazz and recurrent on swing and show bands Jaga Jazzist are big bands period of its existence a class of its own. Both live and on their records were her compositions and improvisations of astonishing complexity and sweeping emotion, every / r, the / she saw or heard was thrilled. (...) The result was nine pieces that fire in their demanding, polyrhythmic aesthetics and the tempo significantly varying parts as a whole fireworks in one shot (...). "
The music magazine eclipsed gave the album 8 out of 10, the Internet magazine Tonspion 5 of 6 possible points. Although the majority of critics emphasizing the autonomy of the album, the musical vicinity of the album Frank Zappa is mentioned.
