One City One Book

A city reading a book is a form of local read or book marketing that read in several weeks as many people of a city a certain book and speak at events with known or unknown people about it. Organizer may be local bookstores or libraries in conjunction with cultural or educational institutions.

The idea for the project comes from Chicago, where it was first One Chicago as One Book, realized.

Today, there are some countries in the project; in Germany it was first implemented, for example, in Bad Hersfeld, Hamburg and Potsdam 2002. In Vienna, since 2002, a similar campaign as a city. A book. established.

Implementation

A jury consisting of journalists, students, etc. Germanists selects a book that will be read from a city. Attaches particular importance to the jury on an interesting history and a high language level. The content of the book has to address different people of different ages, gender and lifestyle.

The content of the book is to talk about a region. The project aims to promote reading for pleasure, the commitment of the individual and the cultural work. There are events ( literary evenings, theater, exhibitions and lectures ), in which the theme of the book is treated. Ideally, the author for events should be available.
