One-Design

As a device class or One Design are designated for racing boats and yachts, which are manufactured according to a fixed plan and therefore are almost identical, even if they are produced by various shipyards.

Thus, all participants of a regatta start under substantially the same conditions. A fair competition is ensured, in which not the design, materials, equipment and budget, but the skill of the sailor in the foreground.

The building regulations and all relevant rules, the device class, such as equipment, size, shape, weight, construction material, rigging of the boat, etc., are described in the class rules and determine which in turn are based on the general design requirements for ISAF or those of a national association. The class rules are very narrow, the speed of the boat for all the parts in question. Tolerances, consider the small construction errors are given in general. As a basic principle in a unit class applies: Anything that is not allowed is forbidden.

In a survey Championships will take place before the race in which the conformity of each individual boats and their equipment is determined by the class rules. During the race, can be controlled, if nothing has been replaced or upgraded. This potential failure of a crew may incur penalties, which deteriorate the overall placement. The special charm of a regatta with boats of a unit class is the unremunerated sailing against each other. This means that the first yacht in the target has won the race visible to all participants and each participant can easily determine its own position while racing.

Device class boats are for example dragons, lasers, Yngling, Star, Soling or splash. Example of a unit class Yacht is the International 806
