One Love Peace Concert

The One Love Peace Concert took place on 22 April 1978 at Kingston National Stadium in Kingston instead.

A crowd of about 32,000 came to reggae music greats from Jamaica. These included, inter alia, The Meditations, Althea & Donna, Dillinger, Mighty Diamonds, Culture, Dennis Brown, Leroy Smart, Inner Circle, Big Youth, Beres Hammond and Peter Tosh.

Highlight of the concert was the performance by Bob Marley & The Wailers. Marley reconciled at this concert the chairmen of the two dominant political parties of Jamaica, Michael Manley of the ruling People's National Party ( PNP) and Edward Seaga of the Jamaica Labour Party ( JLP ) with each other. Prior to hostile armed groups of the two parties had fought a civil war similar. Marley moved Manley and Seaga on stage for a symbolic handshake that could temporarily stop the civil war-like conditions.
