Ong Teng Cheong

Ong Teng Cheong, Honorary GCMG (Chinese王鼎昌, Wáng Dǐngchāng ); Born January 22, 1936 in Singapore; † February 8, 2002 ibid ) was on 2 September 1993 to 1 September 1999, the fifth president of the city-state of Singapore.

The president were determined by Parliament before 1993. Ong's successor SR Nathan on the other hand was proclaimed twice without choice directly to the President, as all opposition candidates were disqualified. So was Ong Teng Cheong, the first elected president of Singapore since independence in 1965.
