Onofre Cândido Rosa

Onofre Cândido Rosa SDB ( born May 8, 1924 in Paraguaçu, Minas Gerais, Brazil, † December 9, 2009 in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais ) was a Roman Catholic religious priest and bishop of Jardim.

Life

After he had passed the first profession in the Congregation of the Salesians of Don Bosco on 31 January 1948, he studied philosophy from 1948 to 1950 in São João del Rei and 1954-1957 theology at the Seminary Pius XI. in Lapa (São Paulo). He also had a degree in parapsychology and in canon law.

Onofre Cândido Rosa received on 8 December 1957 in São Paulo to the priesthood. In the religious community, he was initially 1958-1959 Director of Studies in Pará de Minas, then in 1960 director of the vocational school in Niterói, 1961-1962 parochial vicar in the parish of São João Bosco, São João del Rei, 1963-1966 economist and director of the school in Paraguaçu and finally, from 1967 to 1969 assistant priest in the parish of São Domingos, Araxá.

On January 9, 1970 Pope Paul VI appointed him. Titular Bishop of Illiberi and appointed him auxiliary bishop in the diocese of Uberlândia, Minas Gerais. The episcopal ordination took place in Araxá on 19 March 1970. The motto was: " Dar a vida pelos irmãos " ( Giving our lives for the brethren ). Already on September 7, he was made Pope Coadjutor Bishop of Uberlândia. Finally, he was on December 1, 1977 Coadjutor Bishop of Corumbá, Mato Grosso do Sul, whom he succeeded on July 5, 1978. On February 16, 1981, Pope John Paul II appointed Bishop of the Diocese of Jardim.

On August 4, 1999, his resignation was accepted. He died as a result of health problems and was Lady of Mount Carmel buried in the Church of Our Lady in his home Paraguaçu.
