Onslaught (band)

Onslaught ( engl. =, rush ') is a British thrash metal band that was founded in 1983 in Bristol, England.

Biography

Onslaught was founded as a punk band. Nige Rockett (guitar) and Steve Grice (drums), who both worked in a print shop, were the founding members. Jase Pope ( vocals) and Paul Hill ( bass) joined the band. In this cast only a demo was born. Roge Davis took over the vocals and Paul Davies came a new bass player in the band. Initially opened for punk bands like Onslaught or The Exploited, and The Varukers. For more demos followed.

The band tended more and more towards thrash metal and explained in interviews, always fast Heavy Metal to have played. Again singer and bassist were exchanged. Paul Mahoney and Jase Stallard joined the band. Appeared in 1985 on the record label Children of the Revolution their first studio album Power From Hell. Music and image were similar to Venom and Slayer. As well as Venom, the band wrote primarily about satanic and occult themes and, like Venom with the album Black Metal to Black Metal, with the song Death Metal eponymous for the Death Metal (where also the American band Possessed with one of the same may raise some previously published song and more native to the Death Metal, this claim ). Paul Mahoney moved to the bass and Sy Keeler took over the vocals on the follow-up album The Force, which was published in 1986 through Music for Nations. Jase Pope turn now played rhythm guitar. Onslaught went on tour and played support for Girlschool, Exciter and Anthrax. In 1986, she played at the Dynamo Festival in front of about 8,000 fans. In 1987, the EP Let There Be Rock, a cover version of AC / DC classic. On the flip side, there are two live songs. Before the recordings Jase Pope was fired and replaced by Rob Trotman. In 1988, Onslaught sign with the then major label London Records. During the recording of the next album intervened the new record company and Sy Keeler had to leave the band. As a replacement Onslaught committed the former Grim Reaper vocalist Steve Grimmett. The vocal tracks from Keeler were removed and replaced by Grimmetts singing. Musically changed a lot, the new material was now more in the power metal direction. As an introduction to the album, the single- Shellshock EP was released. With the hardcore band Crumbsuckers and the thrash metal band Slammer a headlining tour followed by England.

In Search of Sanity was published in 1989 and was a success for the band. In the UK National charts, the album peaked at number 36 in the charts reaching number 1 Metal Let There Be Rock was re-released and went better than the first release. After the release, the band toured Europe as support Annihilator came on. The concert in the famous London Astoria was sold out. The third single was released Welcome to Dying.

1990 Grimmett got out for personal reasons. With the new singer Tony O'Hora the band worked on their next album When Reason Sleeps. However, London Records had no interest in the band and let them fall. A new record company could not find the band and so the band members decided to disband in 1991 Onslaught.

The individual band members played then in a more or less well-known projects. Only Tony O'Hora continued to achieve success with Praying Mantis and a member of the glam rock band The Sweet.

The interest in Onslaught remained on bootleg releases of the debut album.

Grice and Rockett started a comeback in 2004. James Hinder and Sy Keeler came back to the band. After the reunion, the band toured Europe and brought out in March 2007 a ​​new album.
