Opatów, Greater Poland Voivodeship

Opatów ( German Opatow ) is a village in the southernmost tip of the Polish Greater Poland Voivodeship, in powiat Kępiński, in Gmina Łęka Opatowska. The village lies at the junction between the main road 11 ( droga Krajowa 11) and the Province Road 450 ( droga wojewódzka 450).

History

Opatów was founded around the year 1184th The founding of the village was documented confirmed in 1239 by Henry the Pious. In the course of the Second Partition of Poland in 1793 Opatów fell to Prussia, and was incorporated into the new province of South Prussia.

From 1807 to 1815 Opatów belonged to the Duchy of Warsaw, before it was re- Prussian after the Congress of Vienna, this time as part of the province of Posen. After the First World War and the creation of the Second Polish Republic, the community became Polish again and was incorporated in the Province of Posen. 1934 Opatów administrative headquarters of the newly established rural community Opatów.
