Open Government Partnership

The Open Government Partnership ( OGP ) is an international initiative to open government, which was launched by the U.S. Government and the Government of Brazil on 20 September 2011. Currently 8 countries to OGP have known more about 50 countries are in the process of preparing its accession to the initiative. Supporters of the initiative are committed to develop action plans in their countries for more transparency, citizen participation and administrative modernization and carry out regular auditing processes. To the next UN summit in March other countries want to join the Centre.

Accession status of Germany

To date, the German government has not yet announced to join the OGP. Since the fall of 2011, a working group of civil society actors working on a campaign to convince the government says to fully commit to OGP.

On a request from the Green parliamentary deputies Konstantin von Notz out how the federal government responded to the initiative OGP, the federal government responded on 4 July 2012, that they rather want to rely on national and European level priorities. The construction of an EU-wide interoperable open data portal or the standardization of metadata have, according to the federal government more direct, practical impact on development in federal, state and local governments as global initiatives.
