OpenTable is a provider of free restaurant reservations online in real time for guests and reservation and guest management solutions for restaurants.

History

OpenTable was founded in 1998 by Chuck Templeton, San Francisco, California.

In 1999, the website or the portal was launched and first offered a limited selection of restaurants in San Francisco. OpenTable has more than 28,000 restaurant customers and has placed more than 490 million customers around the world since its inception. The OpenTable service is available in the USA, Canada, Germany, Japan, Mexico and the UK. OpenTable also operates toptable.com, a leading restaurant reservation site in the United Kingdom.

On 21 May 2009 the IPO took place. On 1 October 2010 OpenTable took over the company toptable, a restaurant reservation service from the UK.

Service

The online reservation service OpenTable helps restaurants to accept the reservations and thus occupy more tables. In addition, restaurants can use the electronic reservation book of OpenTable to completely replace the paper reservation book. The system is modernizing the reservation and guest management and allows restaurants to build up a detailed guest database, ie a higher rating to achieve recognition and operate targeted email marketing.
