Opera house

The first opera house in Lyon was built by architect Jacques- Germain Soufflot and inaugurated in 1756. Due to its poor condition, it has already been demolished in 1826 to make the Théâtre Chenavard, a neo-classical building of the architect Antoine -Marie Chenavard and Jean -Marie Pollet, space. 1989, a complete reconstruction of the opera was performed under the direction of Jean Nouvel. From the original building only the façade remained; the interior as well as a very distinctive, executed in steel and glass roof structure have been completely redesigned. The Opera House is also known as the Opéra Nouvel since this redesign based on the name of the architect.

Inside, there is the 1100 -seat Great Hall and end in space including a small amphitheater with seating for 200 spectators. To isolate spurious vibration and other environmental influences as possible from the audience, the Great Hall inside the opera house with the help of six huge steel beams from each 23 tons dead weight at 46 meters high pillars was hung from concrete.
