Operation Orchard

Codenamed Operation Orchard, the Israeli Air Force conducted on 6 September 2007 by an attack on a building in Syria.

The Israeli and the U.S. government justified the attack by claiming that there had been in the building at a nuclear facility, presumably the al - Kibar reactor for military use. This was strongly denied by the Syrian government.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) conducted an investigation. In its opinion, the IAEA speaks of a " significant number of anthropogenic ( chemically processed ) uranium particles that do not correspond Syria previously undeclared material. " In its report of June 2009, the IAEA of Damascus calls for the permission for further inspection with access to three more Syrian assets that could have been associated with Al- Kibar. Syria went (October 2009) not respond.

As the IAEA published on May 24, 2011, it acted at the destroyed plants "very likely" a nuclear reactor.
