Opika von Méray Horváth

Opika of Méray Horváth, known in Hungary as Méray - Horváth Zsófia, ( born December 30, 1889 in Arad, Austria - Hungary, † April 25, 1977 in Budapest) was a Hungarian figure skater who started in a single run. It is the world champion in 1912 until 1914.

From Méray Horváth was born in the Banat in an intellectual family. She was a member of the Budapesti Korcsolyázó Egylet (Figure Skating Club of Budapest). After Lily Kronberger she was the second Hungarian Weltklasseeiskunstläuferin. At the World Championship 1911 in Vienna, she was the last title win Kronberger second. It was the first double victory for a nation in the women's competition at the World Figure Skating Championships. It was then possible by Méray Horváth win the title three times in a row. In 1912, she won in Davos ahead of the Briton Dorothy Greenhough -Smith, 1913 in Stockholm before the British Phyllis Johnson and 1914 in St. Moritz before the Austrian Angela Hanka. The First World War ended her career. Later she worked as a language teacher.
