Orange City is a city in Volusia County in the U.S. state of Florida with 10,599 inhabitants ( 2010).

Geography

The city is bordered by the cities of Deltona and DeBary and is about 5 km south of DeLand, and 40 km north of Orlando.

Demographics

According to the 2010 census, the then 10,599 inhabitants distributed to 5,917 households. The population density was 666.6 inh. / Km ². 85.7 % of the population were white, 6.5% African American, 0.4% Native American and 1.5% Asian Americans. 3.6% were members of other ethnic groups and 2.2% in different ethnic groups. 16.9 % of the population were Hispanic or Latino.

In 2010, children under the age of 18 and 43.6 % of all households lived in 23.1 % of all households with persons at least 65 years. 56.1 % of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring ). The average size of a household was 2.11 persons and the average family size was 2.75 persons.

20.3% of the population were younger than 20 years, 21.7% were 20-39 years old, 22.7 % were 40-59 years old and 35.3 % were at least 60 years old. The median age was 48 years. 45.1 % of the population were male and 54.9 % female.

The average annual income was $ 30,712, while 20.3 % of the population lived below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 94.23 % of the population spoke Spanish 4.53% and 1.24 % had a different mother tongue.

Parks

In the near Orange City, there are some parks such as the Hontoon Iceland, the Lower Wekiva River Preserve and the Blue Spring State Park. In the latter arises from the St. Johns River, the longest river in Florida, which forms the south of Orange City to Monroe Lake. The parks are actively used for recreational activities such as kayaking, diving, hiking and camping.

Traffic

The city is crossed by Interstate 4 and U.S. Highways 17 and 92 (SR 15/SR 600). The nearest airport is Orlando Sanford International Airport ( around 30 km south).
