Orangekehliger Spring Perch
The Orange- Spring perch ( Etheostoma spectabile ) is one of the many popular in the United States speedy Spring perch (hence the name American Darter ), which all belong to the family of the Real perch ( Percidae ) from the order of Perciformes ( Perciformes ).
Dissemination
It inhabits small creeks and streams of the Mississippi and Missouri river systems in the central United States.
Food
Orange- Spring perch feed on insects and planktonic crustaceans.
Reproduction
During the spawning season the males develop an orange coloration on the throat and chest. The throat of the females and non -spawning male is whitish in color. The males are searching for the spawn point, and the females dig shallow nests in which they lay several hundred eggs which are then fertilized and guarded by the male.
