Order for Service to the Homeland in the Armed Forces of the USSR

The Order " For Service to the Fatherland in the armed forces of the USSR" (Russian: За службу Родине в Вооружённых Силах СССР ) was a military decoration of the former Soviet Union, which was founded on 28 October 1974 in three classes by the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet. The first class is to be regarded as the highest class. This order was about the only military order, which was founded after the Second World War.

Award conditions

The Order was in recognition of achievements in the political and combat training and for promoting a high combat readiness, and the introduction of new fighting techniques. He also was awarded for exemplary service performing, for the successful carrying out of special orders for bravery and selflessness in the performance of military duty, and for other services during the period of service in the armed forces of the USSR. Awards Authorized persons were all members of the Soviet army, the naval fleet, the border troops of the USSR, and the troops of the Interior. The award of the Order and private privileges were connected. So the Entrusted I class was entitled to better and / or larger living space and was given preferential treatment in the awarding of such dwellings. Owner lower classes could use free public transport or sanatoriums. For a large part of the award recipients and an increase in future pension by up to 15 percent was possible.

Stylish look and manner

The religious character of all classes consists of a composite arched and eight-pointed star with anchors, wings and rockets, four of which radiate (foreground) and four enamelled ( background) are. The dimensions between the enamelled rays are 65 mm and 58 mm in the radial. In the middle of the placed radial star a 25 mm by measuring medallion with a Soviet star is in front of one the wreath and the Kreisumschrift on a white background: За службу Родине в ВС СССР ( For service to the fatherland in the armed forces of the USSR ). Although it is a plug- cross, a ribbon was donated to the religious character, which, however, was only worn in the interim clasp. The tape is kept light blue, wherein, in the III.
