Order of Isabella the Catholic

The Orden de Isabel la Católica (German Order of Isabella the Catholic ) is awarded for services to the arts and sciences in Spain.

It was donated to the March 24, 1815 under the name Royal and American Order of Isabella the Catholic King Ferdinand VII. The fact that this Order of Queen dedicated, was the discovery of America, under whose government in 1492, is not surprising, because he was first offered the prospect of those as an incentive for the suppression of the rebellion in America - whether as a civilian or a soldier - would contribute. Its officially constituted from target was the " Award of flawless fidelity to Spain and the merits of those Spanish citizens and foreigners for the benefit of the nation and very especially those rendered in favor of the prosperity of the U.S. and overseas territories extraordinary services ". The Order was reformed in 1847 and renamed the Real Order of Isabel the Catholic, after the loss of most of the colonial empire was thus only royal, not American.

Order decoration

The decoration is a red - enameled cross with a golden border. The outer edges of the four arms of the cross have five tooth-like spikes. The outer peaks are covered with small gold balls. In the cross angles golden rays are inserted. The round medallion topped with a crown has a picture showing the two hemispheres and is adopted by a white enamel border. On this there are the inscriptions: " A la lealtad Acrisolada " ( " the immaculate fidelity ") and " Por Isabel la Católica " ( " Isabella the Catholic "). Above the cross is a green enameled laurel wreath with the ribbon ring.

Ribbon

The ribbon is white with yellow edge stripes. The highest classification awarded the Order of the right shoulder of the left hip and one golden slightly larger decoration Medal same star on the chest. On the medallion are the initials of the founder, "FR" The commanders wear the decoration around the neck and the knights in his buttonhole.
