Order of St. Raymond of Peñafort

The Order of San Raimundo de Peñafort ( it. Orden de la Cruz de San Raimundo de Peñafort ) was instituted by decree on 23 January 1944, the Spanish leader Francisco Franco and is awarded for achievements in the improvement of the legal system and the judiciary. A ceremony will be held by the Ministry of Justice and foreigners. Named the Order after the Catholic Church jurists Raimondo de Peñafort, who was canonized in 1601 by Pope Clement VII.

Order of classes

The Order comprises five classes and an attached medal, which is divided into four stages:

  • Grand Cross
  • Cross of Honor
  • Commander First and Second Class
  • Knight
  • San Raimundo de Peñafort Medal Golden medal with enamel
  • Silver medal with enamel
  • Bronze medal with silver
  • Bronze medal

Order decoration

The religious character is a white enamelled Maltese Cross with small beads on the cross points. The first two classes are made of any other silver gold. With the exception of fifth grade a small loop between the cross arms are attached in all crosses, respectively. The cross bears the image of the center of the saints, that of a blue enameled band with the inscription IN Jure MERITA ( merits in jurisprudence ) is enclosed. On the vertical arms of the cross is also found the inscription S. RAYMUNDOS PENNAFORTI.

The medal is an octagonal medallion. The obverse is divided into two halves and is supported by the inscription CRVZ DE SAN Raymundo DE Peñafort - MINISTERIO DE JUSTICIA ( Honour San Raimundo de Peñafort - Ministry of Justice) enclosed. In the middle is horizontal a name band with the inscription CONSTANTIA ET virtute ( steadfastness and fidelity ). In the upper half of the picture Raimundos is to see how he makes the trek from Mallorca to Barcelona. The lower half shows the scales of Justice. In the reverse there is the inscription Insigni DOCTORI sancto Raymundus PENNAFORTI PRINCIPI JURIS IN STUDIO ET eminenti Hispaniae FILIO honorem REDDITUR AC VENERATIONEM - VICTOR - 23 D. Carrying method

The Grand Cross is worn on a Collane and a sash from the right shoulder to the left hip as well as with a breast star. Holder of the Cross of Honor wear a Collar of silver and a breast star. The Commander's Cross I and II class is decorated as a neck order and the first class in addition to a breast star. The Knight's Cross and the individual stages of the coin are worn on the ribbon on the left chest.

The ribbon is kamesinrot with narrow blue edges.
